All hands on deck as we produce a Quality film

The Chartered Quality Institute wanted a film to describe what Quality is and how their quality managers work to improve organisations. John and Fergus teamed up to deliver a daring, off-the-wall creative that was guaranteed to be unlike anything shown at Quality Managers’ meetings, and could clearly communicate the message.

The Handy Guide to Quality called for a performer with fascinating, expressive hands, and who better than Andy Dawson, who’s done the whole moon landing with his! (see here)

Special thanks also to Ben Grounds (Art Dept) for his patient and meticulous style in sourcing gloves, oranges and the creating the ‘Juictron4000’ which is now sitting in Fergus’ kitchen.

After a highly technical tabletop shoot at the Pukka Studio, David Ashardi’s wizardry in the edit and a fantastic voice over record from Simon Greenall (I’m Alan Partridge, the ‘meerkats’ commercial), the film was complete, and delivered more than a week early.

The film has been received well and is now being translated into more languages so that the message can be spread further afield.

Four into one will go….

We have just completed a series of films for NEST (National Employment Savings Trust) to launch a new scheme for providing employees with an automatic workplace pension.

We had three days to put the pitch together and came up with the idea of a man having a conversation about pensions with himself at four different ages. You can see the result here

This was a very complex shoot technically and logistically and, achieved in a very short timescale (less than two weeks from shoot to delivery).

CLIENT COMMENT
“As part of our work to raise awareness of NEST in the run up to the launch of the scheme, we commissioned a series of short films. Our objectives were to inform people about pension reform, generate support for this change in workplace pension provision and educate them about the role NEST will play in delivering the reform.

We had just over a month from sending out RFQs to delivery of the films. We needed three audience-specific films and we anticipated an approach similar to films we had commissioned previously. So we were happily surprised to receive a creative approach that delivered complex messaging in a highly original and accessible way with a central idea that reinvents the way you look at the subject.

We were keen to do more than just ‘tick boxes’ with this communication and feel we have successfully delivered a series of films that will engage our audiences through comedy whilst informing them.

It is too early to measure effectiveness of the films beyond informal feedback. So far that has been very positive from across the full spectrum of our stakeholders. We certainly consider it a valuable piece of communications.”

We’re very excited to have launched our first published title A Manager’s Guide to Industrial Action. Industrial disputes have been few and far between over the last twenty to thirty years and the days of regular industrial strife have largely been left behind us. That may be about to change

The film and training resource has been produced and written by Pukka Films and is now available to buy from here. Aimed at line managers and HR managers who are having to manage a strike at their place of work, the film combines a generic training drama with interviews with HR experts and consultants.

The resource has been delivered on DVD as well as via an Online training portal.

The film exists as both a generic training resource, as well as being customisable by clients through filming and editing in their own HR directors and Internal Communications experts.

Saipem ENI have launched Phase Two of their Leadership in Safety campaign. Phase One saw Saipem staff around the world attend safety workshops, based on our modular film The Safer the Better, that reinforced the company focus on safe working and how to achieve it.

Phase Two uses a new film to convey the behaviours that are necessary to maintain and improve safe working. Filmed over a week in Sardinia, What Comes First introduces and explains the LiHS team’s Leading Behaviours. The film is being rolled out over a 6 month campaign and is being dubbed into 6 languages.

Pukka Films drama ‘Exposed’ tells the story of Dee, who has to face the consequences of sending compromising photos of herself to her boyfriend. The 7 minute film is used in schools to highlight the dangers of ‘Sexting’ to 14-18 year olds.

At the recent IVCA awards, the UK’s top business and public service communications event, ‘Exposed’ won not only the top award for a film costing under £15,000 but the overall award for best script plus three further awards in the best directing, best drama, and best education film categories.

CLIENT COMMENT
“Exposed has been a great success, it is a thought-provoking film that, most importantly, rates very highly with young people and those who care for them. We are very happy with the role Pukka played in helping to design and create the film; they showed creativity and used their expertise to produce something that would grab the attention of young people in a contemporary fashion. They challenged us as a client to think hard about what we wanted from the resource and we feel this ongoing debate resulted in a film we are very proud of.”
